Bedding is the mortar bed that holds each ridge cap in place. Pointing is the flexible compound applied over the bedding along the edges to seal and weatherproof it. Re-bedding renews the mortar; repointing renews the seal.
Flexible pointing typically lasts 15 to 20+ years, much longer than traditional cement pointing, which can crack within a few years as the roof moves.
If the ridge caps are still firmly bedded we can often just repoint. If caps are loose or the mortar bed has failed, we re-bed first, then repoint. We'll advise after inspecting.
